Social Awareness Groups
Evening Star
• The Evening Stars Circle is a group of Milford Mill UM women. We offer Bible study, social events, and companionship in Jesus’ name. A formal Bible study may or may not be offered depending upon the session leader.
• The person in charge of the program each month chooses a religious based topic. The programs have been interesting and thought provoking. Meetings are once a month during the school year in the church library, member’s home or in the parsonage.
• There is a monthly donation of a dollar. This money is used for postage, cards, flowers, and donated to different family resource areas such as Night of Peace Shelter. Gently used and clean nylons are collected. These are donated to Linda Treuting’s Fellowship Camp. Someone is weaving them into beautiful kitchen rugs. These in turn are sold and the profits go to the camp
Education Outreach
We are currently partnering with Campfield Early Learning Center. School in our area are reporting their population has increasing needs due to poverty (about 70% of school population is eligible for free or reduced-price meals). Therefore we try to provide avenues for teacher’s aides during the school day to help out in the classrooms supporting basic literacy (for example, knowing their letters and colors). Aides must attend an initial training which is held once monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. We provide financial support through sponsorship programs such as Target’s Take Charge of Education, Giant’s A Plus, or Box Tops for Education. A Box Tops collection box has been set up at church. We also provide seasonal Winter Clothing and Coats.
Senior Moments
Senior Moments is open to all people ages 55+ and their guests. They meet monthly between September – May on Thursdays. They bring their own lunch and presenter from group or local agency gives a talk on health, wealth, financial planning, and other topic that might interest seniors. Leader: Elaine Alexander
